Arthur's life is not like any other Riders life, unlike them he was born of nobility and is actually a prince. He grew up in a lavish life style, though he is no stranger to work. Training from the time he could walk to be a knight. He practiced from dawn till dusk, mastering the skill of every known weapon until he was a master at all weapons. But there was one skill in particular he took to rather quickly and naturally and that was swordsmanship. He is a master at the sword, both quick and agile he is a formidable foe. One day while Arthur was out in search of a beast that was terrorizing the outlaying villages, he stumbled upon Khy. Arthur was both terrified and awed by the great beast, and as he reached up to touch the great dragon the mark or bond was made. It was only later when Khy explained to him the significance of it all did Arthur realize how important his role was. As the years progressed Khy and Arthur became a formidable team, practicing every day to prefect their magic and fighting skills, though they did so in secret. For having the worlds oldest dragon can bring unwanted attention. Arthur has mastered the majority of his magic thanks to the help of Khy.

History Unlike other dragons who hatched when their Rider was nears, Khy hatched early when he felt his home being threatened. A great war was afoot and many of his brothers and sisters had already been killed. In order to survive instinct told him it was time to hatch. And so Khy was born, born into a world of death and destruction. It is because he was born without the call of a Rider that he has so many "talents". Over the centuries he has remained hidden, concealing himself until his Rider was born. He watched as many great Kingdoms and heroes rose and fell. He's seen his kind fall then rise again to great heights. From the moment he hatched he saw when his Rider would be born and the great heights they would achieve together. So now all he had to was wait...and wait. He waited over a thousand years before he felt the strong call of his Rider. [flashback]And so the journey begins he said into the frosty night. He watched from afar as his young Rider grew from a naive and fiery boy to an admirable, noble, and skilled warrior. Then was when his Rider was 16, he choose to contact him. When his Rider went in search of a beast he was there waiting for his arrival. It was there that their unbreakable bond was formed, and their friendship/partnership began.

Rabanete picked his way through the dense forest, his thick haunches and shoulders moving fluidly as he carried his noble rider through the tree. His soft black nostrils flared with each exhale, and he flicked his tail in annoyance at the files that rest upon his smooth, but scar ridden body. Arthur sighed and shifted in the saddle trying to sit more comfortably. He had been riding for weeks now and his muscles had begun to stiffen and occasionally cramp, causing his ride to become very uncomfortable. Rabanete, whoa. he said quietly as he put slight tension on the reins. Rabanete came to a soft halt and Arthur dismounted quickly. His legs seemed to sigh in relief as his feet touched the ground. Putting his arms above his head he stretched his tense and aching muscles. After a few minutes, he let them drop as they started to go numb and immediately they floated to Medhir, as if to confirm that it was still there. After skillfuly adjusting Medhir so it fit better at his side he reached over and gave Rabanete a loving pat, before gathering up the reins and leading him forth. Though he did not need to lead his earnest and sure-footed steed through the forest he knew he could do with a good walk to get the blood circulating back into his legs . As they walked sweat began to slide down Arthurs face, reaching up he brushed back his blond hair to get it out of his ocean blue eyes. Emrys a familiar voice called echoing in his mind There is a small village to the south of you. Go there and seek shelter, but be careful. the voice warned him. I will. he replied. Arthur paused and glanced up at the sky for a fraction of a second. There, in the clouds far ahead was a huge dark looming shadow heavily concealed in the light but thick clouds. Arthur doubted anyone would notice it, though the worry never left his mind as he made his way southward with Rabanete in tow.

Ryhs: Rhys grunted as he led Knurl to the stable. Now listen here. This is only for the night. I don't like it either, but I have to know what's going on, and this is the best way to find out. he said. He gently guided the stubborn stallion into the stable stall. He patted his dun companion's side. Just for the night. he promised the wild beast. After giving Knurl a thorough rub down, and putting fresh bedding and feed in the stall, Rhys turned to leave. Knurl stamped his hoof and snorted with discuss, but Rhys didn't look at the stallion, if he did Knurl would think he was getting his way.
Rhys entered the tavern. He had already paid for a room and a stall for the night. Now he sat down at an empty table. The inn was large. It had a quiet, relaxed feel about it. When you stepped in, there was a large fire place straight in front of you on the far wall. The counter and kitchen room was to your right, and the many rows of tables to your left. A staircase that led to the dozen or so rooms was on the right in the far corner, by the counter. Rhys took a seat in the far left corner where the light of the fire flickered without the added heat. He sat with his back to the wall, facing the entrance. After ordering his meal, he sloughed and waited for his meal while he listened to the voices around him. Most spoke of nonsense, but every so often, one would speak of something that interested the young knight. Your meal, sir. a young girl's voice caught his attention. He looked up and smiled at the waitress. She placed his meal before him and left silently. Miss. he called to her. She turned around. Yes, sir? she asked softly, unsure of what he wanted. Thank you. he said, placing a few coins as a tip into her soft white hands. The waitress smiled thinking him, then returned to the kitchen. Rhys began to eat, still watching the others around him, but not as closely now.

Arthur's blond hair was plastered to his forehead in sweat by the time he and Rabanete caught a glimpse of the village. Just south my a$$ he grumbled between labored breaths. Rabanete tossed his head and seemed to roll his eyes as he nickered in reply. His long black fetlock fell into his sweet brown eyes making his scared face soften. Arthur gave Rabanete a friendly smile as he leaned against his thick muscular shoulder for support and comfort. The heat of Rabanetes body warmed his already uncomfortably hot body to another degree, and he shifted away but left his hand on Rabanetes scar ridden shoulder. Just a little bit more to go boy, then we can rest. he said encouragingly as he patted Rabanete.
As the village loomed before them Arthur paused for a moment to raise the hood of his cloak over his head, hiding his face. It was always best to remain anonymous when in unfamiliar territory. Tugging lightly on Rabanetes reins he led him into the worn down village. As they walked Arthur observed the rather quiet village from beneath his cloak. His blue eyes sharp and open but also wary. It was then when he spotted what seemed like the only stable in town. At least it looked pretty decent. Glanceing over at Rabanete he gave him a half shrug Looks like this is it boy. Rabanete nickered and began to drag Arthur towards the stable, he didn't care if it was run down or not all he wanted was a nice hot meal and a soft place to sleep, for he hadn't had one for weeks. Arthur jogged beside Rabanete as he led the way to the barn. After paying the owner Arthur proceeded to un-tack Rabanete, being careful not to damage any of it. Good tack was hard to come by these days. As the saddle and bridle were removed Rabanete heaved a huge relived sigh as the great weight of the saddle was lifted from his back. He yawned and licked his lips relishing in the fact the bit was gone from his mouth. Arthur gave a hearty laugh and began to rub Rabanete down, he made sure not to miss a single spot. Once he was done he placed Rabanete two stalls down from the dun colored horse, and ran to get Rabanetes food. He returned quickly with two pails. One with water the other with hot steaming bran. Rabanete whickered happily and pranced in place earging Arthur to hurry. Arthur let out a amused laugh, Patience boy! It's coming!. He quickly poured the hot bran into Rabanetes rusty pail then did the same thing with the water. Rabanete shoved his muzzle greedily into the pail and whickered softly as he ate. Arthur smiled and stroked his thick muscular neck lovingly, before turning and attending to Rabanetes sores. Once he was done and was sure Rabanete was resting contently in his stall he cleaned up his tack, locking it away, and began walking towards the inn a few doors down. Making sure his face was well concealed he proceeded into the inn. As he entered he was hit with a wave of loud laughter and people drinking heartily. Arthur paused only for a moment to servery the crowd, his ocean blue eyes taking in every movement and gesture. Satisfied there was nothing to worry about he made his way towards the man standing at the front desk. I am in need of a room he said in a matter-a-fact tone. The bald man gave him a false smile as he spoke Certainty, we have two rooms available. Single or double? Arthur scowled from beneath his cloak, was this man stupid or something? Did it really look like there was someone with him? Bitting his tongue he gave his answer in a light voice Single. The bald man scribble something in his book then looked up And how long will you be staying? he asked. Arthur leaned against the podium setting down his coins as he replied Three days. The bald man smiled then directed him to his room. Arthur just nodded in reply and gathered up his stuff. He picked his way through the mass of bodies and rushing waitresses, taking only slight note of the young man who was dinning in the corner. Then he whisked up the stairs to his room.

Ryhs: Rhys watched the young stranger with interest. Their was something about him that the others in the tavern didn't posses. Maybe it was just that he was weary from a long journey. Rhys shook his head, his dark hair falling into his face. As the stranger went up stairs, Rhys stood and walked outside. As the sun was setting, a cool breeze picked up. Rhys headed straight for the stalls. Knurl snorted as Rhys entered the stable. The dun looked over at another horse, then turned to Rhys with a look that told the knight he wasn't pleased. Easy boy. I've just come to check on you. he said quietly. He looked at the other horse, then back to his own. He walked up to the temperamental dun and smiled. He patted him companion's neck, and rested his check on the stallion's forehead. It's just for the night. Tomorrow we will head for Surda, as I have found no other leads. Relax now, I will see you at sunrise. he said, then left and returned to the inn.
As he entered the noisy inn, the sound was just a jumbled roar for a moment, then it became several meaningless voices. He could pick out a few words as he passed the speaker, but nothing solid. As his ears adjusted to the sounds, he began to understand more of the voices. With a yawn he looked around, then headed upstairs to his room. I wonder where that stranger is headed? That had to be his horse. An impressive animal, to say the least. he thought, as he headed to his room. He turned around as he thought he heard footsteps behind him, but when he turned he say nothing. Reaching for his sword, he paused. After a moment, he started walking again, but kept his hand on the hilt of his weapon. He hadn't seen anyone that looked like a soldier of the Empire, but he couldn't be too sure.
As he entered his room, he made sure to lock the door. He walked over to his mat and sat down. He could hear the voices of the people below him, and movement from one of the other rooms, but no noises came from the hallway. Unbuckling his sword belt, he laid it by his mat, where it was in reach if he needed it. If he was to get up early, he would have to sleep. He sighed as he laid down on the hard, smelly mat. He laid silently, listening to the sounds from the rest of the tavern, until he finally gave in to sleep. His last thought was of the stranger. He decided that he would talk to him before he left. Knurl would just have to wait a little longer.

Arthur surveyed his room with a critical eye. It certainly wasn't the best inn he had stayed in, in fact it was one of the worst. Arthur wrinkled his nose in disgust as he sat on the mat and a foul odor floated out around him. Ugh! There was no way he was going to be able to stay here for three days, he was going to have to find somewhere else to stay even if that meant sleeping outside again. Rising Arthur untied Medhir from his side and propped it against the wall near his mat. Then he removed his cloak and dropped it on the floor, next he stripped off his shirt revealing his pale muscular chest, and there on his right ribcage was his mark, it was barely visable, but it was there. The mark was large running from the top of his shoulder down around his right ribcage to the lower middle part of his back. It was a beautiful and intricate mark full of ancient writing, swirls of leaves, and most importantly a stunning powerful looking dragon. It's eyes seemed to hold much wisdom and power. Arthur exhaled loudly and had just plopped down on the foul mat when the familiar voice echoed once again through his mind Emrys. Arther sighed exasperated What!? If this is another prophecy or advice, keep it to yourself because I don't want to hear it. I'm tired and just want to go to sleep. he replied tartly. The sound of shifting echoed in his head before his reply was answered Well that's just to bad because I'm going to tell you anyway, and a smile could be heard in the voice you really don't have a choice, you'll hear what I have to say no matter what. Arthur huffed, a wrinkle appeared in his brow as he frowned in displeasure but he didn't argue. There was silence, as if the voice was waiting for him to argue. It only spoke again when nothing more was said by Arthur Tomorrow you will be approached by a young man, be careful of what you say for he will be analyzing every word. He works for the kingdoms around here and it would be a bad idea if he found out about us. the voices warning tone echoed in Arthur head as he studied the crumbling ceiling, and he sighed before giving his sleepy reply I am always careful. The last thing he heard was the soft echo of a disbelieving scoff, as he drifted to sleep.
The next morning Arthur awoke as dawn was breaching the worn down town. He dressed quickly, double checking Medhir to make sure it was tied securely to his side before he headed downstairs. He didn't bother with his cloak today, as he felt more relaxed. Instead it rested lightly in his shoulders as he weaved in and out of the empty tables. As he weaved the hair on the back of his neck began to stand up. Arthur paused and looked around the gradually lighting room. His sharp ocean blue eyes darting quickly around the room, only stopping to rest on a young waitress who was giving him shy glances, he flashed her an easy and winning smile before snatching two apples from one of the tables and heading out the door to the stables. As he walked he took bites out of the sweet and juicy apple enjoying it's savory flavor. By the time he reached the barn the apple was gone all that was left was the core which the threw to the ground before he entered the stable. Arthur strolled confidently down the isle glancing momentarily to admire the dun horse, as he made his way to Rabanetes stall. As he neared he received a warm and welcoming nicker. Arthur smiled and quickly slide open Rabanetes stall door Hey boy! How was your night? he asked with a elated smile. Reaching up he stroked Rabanetes noble scared face. Rabanete neighed happily and gave Arthur a firm loving nudge on his side. Arthur laughed, then straightened up as he remembered something, a mischievous look appeared in his blue eyes By the way boy I have something for you. Rabanetes ears perked as Arthur spoke and he quickly began searching all of Arthur pockets. His silky nose skimming lightly over Arthur's body. Arthur laughed loudly and reached into his back pocket pulled out the second apple. Rabanete nickered happily and snatched it up munching on it contently. The juice of the apple dribbled out of his mouth and onto the ground. Arthur smiled and left his steed eating his treat to look for a halter. Rabanete would enjoy a good walk and some nice green grass. Arthur returned a couple seconds later with a worn rope halter, he quickly slipped it over Rabanetes scared face and led him down the isle towards the stable doors. Rabanete carved his sleek scared neck and pranced eagerly beside Arthur. His gait mesmerizing and fluid, making him seem like he was floating rather then walking. Only two feet touched the ground at a time, and each leg was picked up and held high with astounding grace. His long wavy mane and tail flowed around him, and his red bay coat shimmered in the now risen sunlight. He was jaw dropping to watch, beauty, power and, grace all in one, he was truly a magnificent and noble steed. Fit for a king. Arthur grinned as Rabanete continued his one horse parade down through the village, and he watched as the villagers stopped in their tracks to stare as he and Rabanete went by.
As they walked down the beaten dirt road it wasn't long before they reached a wide open field. The long strands of green grass waved gently in the light breeze. Arthur stopped to admire the peace and serenity of it all before he turned towards his eager prancing steed. Looping the end of the frayed rope around Rabanetes neck, he tied it in a knot and then gave Rabanete a firm pat on the shoulder Off you go now he said. Rabanete whinnied loudly and burst away from Arthurs side, racing around the open field occasionally dipping from sight as the rolling hills block Arthurs view. Arthur grinned and chuckled warmly, he wasn't worried about Rabanete running away for his trusted steed somehow always found him. Heaving a tired sigh Arthur made his way quietly into the middle of the field which made for a pretty good hike. He stopped and sat down before leaning back and stretching out in the long grass enjoying the peace and quiet of the waving grass. His blond hair, which was slightly disheveled looking, rested lightly upon his forehead occasionally moving in the breeze. Arthur heaved a contented sigh and close his eyes, his body concealed by the slender grass. Rabanetes furious pace had, at some point, slowed because he was now grazing contently in the field. Quite a bit a-ways away from his owner. He flicked his long wavy tail across his scared body shooing away the annoying flies that attacked his sides.

Ryhs: Warm sun-light woke the young knight. Rhys blinked, then swore and quickly sat up. He had over slept. With a sigh he stretched the sleep from stiff muscles. Slowly he stood and walked around the room to get his blood flowing. Still stiff, Rhys made his way downstairs. He looked around for a moment, then thought about his promise to Knurl. Later. he mumbled to himself. After taking a warm bath, he was finally able to relax some. He gathered his belongings and headed out to the stables. He had had enough of that smelly old inn. He would take Knurl out, speak to the stranger, then make his way to Surda. He went over his plan, adding more detail, as he made his way to the stable. An agitated, yet excited snort greeted him. He looked up to see that Knurl was looking at him. I'm sorry boy. We're going now. No more stables for a while. he said. The moody dun nodded his head sharply, then waited for Rhys to join him. Rhys rubbed his hand though his bangs, then looked at his tack. He shook his head, and began to at Knurl's side. He walked to the back of the stall and grabbed the first piece of tack. He began to replace his equipment, all the while he was telling Knurl his plans. It was a habit he had fallen into. It allowed him to hear his thoughts, and the sound of his voice soothed Knurl. When he had finished, he led Knurl out of the stables. He had replaced all the things he had removed the night before. He continued to lead Knurl until they had passed the tavern. Then he looked at the feisty dun. He thought for a moment, then remembered the valley they had passed. Are you up for a run? he asked his companion. Knurl nodded again and snorted his agreement. He never got tired to running. Rhys climbed into the saddle and guided Knurl towards the field.
When they reached the grassland, a strong, fresh breeze greeted them. Rhys looked around. At first, the field looked empty, but after a second, he saw movement as the bay from the stables raced over the land. Rhys looked at Knurl, and as he checked to make sure everything was secure, he spoke to the wild stallion. Play nice. he warned. He let the horse go, and then made his way though the tall grasses and wild flowers. The wind felt good on his bare arms as he reached the tops of one of the hills. His dark brown hair blew into his eyes, just to be blown out of the way again. He breathed in deeply, then looked around. At first he only saw a hint of a misplaced color, then realized it was the stranger's cloak, blowing in the wind. Rhys stood where he was for a moment, thinking of how best to approach him. The sound of hoof beats, and the shaking of the ground, made him look behind him. He jumped back as the red bay charged past. Seconds later, Knurl passed as well. Rhys started to get after his dun, but before he did he realized that the red bay was only playing. Knurl would follow the noble stallion, then they would both stop, and Knurl would take the lead. Laughing, Rhys looked back at where the stranger had been. He noticed the the horses were careful to avoid running to close to the stranger, unlike Rhys who had nearly been trampled.

Wake up Emrys! You have company the familiar voice said echoing through his mind. Arthur's eyes snapped open and he bolt upright his hand floating to Medhir ready to be drawn if necessary. His intelligent ocean blue eyes watched in surprise as Rabanete thundered by with a dun in tow. He frown and stood, his cloak catching the light breeze and flowing out at his side tugging lightly at his neck, he watched as the two horses raced back and forth across the field still trying to figure out why the dun colored horse looked so familiar. Then it came to him, the dun was the same one from the stable. He swept the field, his ocean blue eyes darting around furiously looking for the owner of the dun horse; they quickly landed upon a solitary figure a couple yards away. He frowned and began to approach the figure, his blond hair sweeping into his eyes from the wind. As he neared, his ocean eyes gave the young boy a once over before settling on his eyes, Arthurs hand fell away from Medhir as he spoke Can I help you? he asked getting straight to the point. Arthur listened to Rabanetes happy and excited squeals as he and the dun continued their race before giving a shrill whistle. He didn't want Rabanete to ware himself out, it was, after all his day off no need to exhaust himself. Rabanete gave the dun one last playful nudge before whipping around and racing to Arthur. His powerful scared haunches bunching as his hooves dug into the ground bringing him to a sliding stop at Arthurs side. Arthur laughed and rubbed Rabanetes scared nose as it was thrust-ed at him, Having fun boy? Rabanete whinnied happily in reply and shook his head flinging his long black wavy mane every which way. His bangs fell softly into his sweet bright brown eyes, Arthur, forgetting there was a stranger standing in front of him, began to message Rabanetes scared neck and shoulder lovingly.

Ryhs: Rhys looked up, startled by the male's voice. He hadn't been paying attention to the stranger. He had been too busy watching the horses in their carefree play. He hesitated, thinking of a reply, but was interrupted before he could get it out. The other man whisted, and his red roan came trotting up. Knurl followed a ways behind. He looked at Rhys, and snorted. Rhys shook his head at the feisty dun. He looked back at the blond stranger standing before him. Not really, I was just letting Knurl stretch a little before I headed on. Strange that he took so kindly to your roan. he said, the last part more to himself than the blue-eyes man he was replying to. He patted Knurl's neck and whispered softly in the Dwarvish language to the stallion, then looked around. The clouds had begun to gather, but the sun still shined brightly. He breathed in deeply, then let it out and looked at the red stallion. He didn't see anything special about the horse. He had a noble build, and looked like a fine horse, but Knurl wouldn't care about that. The stubborn dun usually resented being around other horses, especially strange horses, but this red roan was an exception. Rhys looked at the rider, their was something about him, but Rhys hadn't figured out what it was yet. He had a feeling Knurl knew, but he had no way of talking to the horse and finding out.

Arthurs gaze was wary and arrogant as his ocean blue eyes scrutinized the boy. Shifting he leaned against Rabanetes scared muscular shoulder Yes, well Rabanetes...special he hesitated a fraction of a second on the last word. As the wind touched the open field once again Arthur hair swept lightly across his forehead and his cape flowed out around him. Clearing his throat he shifted away from Rabanete, who had grown bored of the talk and had started to graze around Arthurs feet. Reaching down Arthur wrapped his fingers around the worn rope and gave a gentle tug Come on boy time to go. Rabanete tossed his head and snorted in slight protest but started off towards the village with Arthur in tow. As the boy and his dun colored horse grew smaller and smaller Arthur began to relax Whew! Glad that's over. Unfortunately we have to leave, we have a lot more distance to cover still Rabanete heaved a huge un-happy sigh. Arthur smiled and stroked his scared neck I know, know, I said we would stay here for a few more days but the sooner we get off the sooner we reach our destination Rabanetes sweet brown eyes looked at him tiredly but he gave a Arthur a soft nudge in reply. Arthur smiled and wrapped his arms tightly around Rabanetes neck in a silent thank you. Rabanete came to a stop and nickered softly as Arthur clung tightly to his neck. Arthur buried his face in Rabanetes thick mane and inhaled deeply taking his Rabanetes sweet scent, they stood there like this for a few more moments before Arthur released Rabanete and they continued on, the village rising up around them. The stranger and his dun horse momentarily forgotten. So. Did you enjoy your morning out? Arthur asked glancing at Rabanete. Rabanete snorted excitedly and bobbed his head up in down, Arthur grinned I thought you would. he said stroking Rabanetes scared face. Arthur sighed and let his arms drop, letting them swing freely as his mind wandered back to the boy. I must be careful. Arthur thought silently to himself. It was never good when people started taking interest.

Ryhs: Rhys mindlessly started to rub Knurl's whither as the wild stallion started to graze. The dark-headed knight watched as the blond man and his roan walked away. Rhys' mind was working over-time. When the stranger had approached, Rhys had realized that just talking to him would get them nowhere. Rhys was still curious about finding out who he really was, but in order to do that, Rhys would have to find a way to spend enough time around him to gain his trust. How was he going to be able to do that?
Quickly turning to look at the dun, as he nibble the lush, sweet grass, Rhys spoke gently. Well boy, I guess Surda will have to wait. and with that, Rhys mounted his stallion. With a twitch of his heels, and the click of his tongue, he guided Knurl into a light gallop. When they needed back to the village, the way Rhys had seen the others leave. When he got closer to where the stranger would be, he slowed into a walk, then stopped and dismounted. If his plan was to work, they would have to try to stay unnoticed, at least from the strange pair. Rhys was determined to find out all he could about the young man, even if it took time that he really couldn't spare. Rhys had a feeling that this stranger was very important, and he wanted to find out just how important that was. If his plan worked, and he found out more about the man, it could prove useful in helping the Varden, and all the people free of Galbartorix's reign, such as Surda, the Dwarves, and the Elves. If he could help all of them, what was a little waisted time? If this mission worked, that time would have been well spent. If. That was the main factor in this mission. If it goes right, all will be fine. But if it goes badly, Rhys was sure he would pay with a good flogging for taking it upon himself such a mission in this time of need. Rhys knew he couldn't let this chance go by, and was willing to take whatever punishment was given is he failed. That to him was all the more reason to make sure all went as planned.
